Belfast the setting for new rom-com series The Lovers

The trailer for the new Belfast-set romantic comedy series The Lovers has been released ahead of the show's arrival on Sky Atlantic and NOW on Thursday 7 September.

The series stars Roisin Gallagher (The Fall, The Dry) opposite Johnny Flynn (Beast, Emma).

The synopsis of The Lovers reads: "The hilarious and heartfelt series follows Janet (Roisin Gallagher), a bad-tempered, hilarious, Belfast supermarket worker who couldn't give a s*** about anything much at all, including her life, and Seamus (Johnny Flynn), a handsome, self-centred, political broadcaster with what looks to be a perfect London life and a celebrity girlfriend.

"So when Seamus unexpectedly drops into Janet's world (literally over the wall and into her backyard), they instantly clash - and yet also find themselves inextricably drawn to each other...

The six-part series is written and created by the award-winning playwright David Ireland (Cyprus Avenue, Ulster American) and directed by BAFTA winner Justin Martin (Together, Prima Facie).
