Strays director Josh Greenbaum has told RTÉ Entertainment that while he was making the woof-as-you-like comedy, he fell for one of his canine stars so hard that he decided to adopt him.
The ribald romp sees lampost-loving misfits Reggie (voiced by Will Ferrell), Bug (Jamie Foxx), Maggie (Isla Fisher) and Hunter (Randall Park) as they embark on an epic adventure.
"So there was a young puppy on set who played Young Reggie in the beginning of the film - and I found out that that dog did not have a home after the film," Greenbaum told RTÉ Entertainment.

"And so I called my wife and said, 'I think I might bring this dog home with us to our daughters'."
"I now have a Young Reggie living with me! I have Will Ferrell living in my house!" laughed Greenbaum.
"And it's kind of bizarre because I really do feel like often I'm looking at Will and Reggie from my film and he just happens to be walking through my living room!
"I feel so lucky to have him as part of my family and kind of this - it's sort of weird to say - memory of making this movie that I love now in my home and part of my family. And that brings me a lot of joy.

"I love him! I love little Reggie! He's on my socks right now, actually. You can't get a shot of him - I have socks with a picture of my daughters and my dog Reggie on them!"
Strays is in cinemas now.
