Blackberry movie coming to Irish cinemas in October

The Oscar-tipped Blackberry - the story of "the brilliance of the individuals that invented the world's first smartphone" - is coming to cinemas in October, and you can watch the trailer above.

Director and co-writer Matt Johnson (Nirvanna the Band the Show) stars alongside Jay Baruchel (How to Train Your Dragon) and Glenn Howerton (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in "a darkly comedic telling of the tragic tale of a Canadian company that revolutionised the way we communicate, before swiftly plummeting into obsolescence".

The synopsis of Blackberry reads: "It's 1996, and Mike Lazaridis (Jay Baruchel) and his business partner and best friend Douglas Fregin (Matt Johnson) are on the edge of creating the world's first smartphone.

"Unfortunately for them, they are less business savvy than they are tech, and struggle to keep their company, Research in Motion, afloat."

Blackberry is released in Irish cinemas on Friday 6 October.

However, when they meet Jim Balsillie (Glenn Howerton), business nous comes into the game plan.

"Incredible success" follows - but there's also trouble ahead...

The award-winning film also stars Rich Sommer (Mad Men), Michael Ironside (Scanners), Saul Rubinek (True Romance), Cary Elwes (Saw) and Martin Donovan (Tenet).

Blackberry is released in Irish cinemas on Friday 6 October.
