Fleetwood Mac co-founder and drummer Mick Fleetwood has said that his restaurant on the Hawaiian island of Maui has been burned down by the wildfires of recent days.

Posting on X, he wrote, "Maui and the Lahaina community have been my home for several decades. This is a devastating moment for Maui, and many are suffering unimaginable loss."

He continued, "Fleetwood's on Front Street has been lost and while we are heartbroken, our main priority is the safety of our dear staff and team members.

"On behalf of myself and my family, I share my heartfelt thoughts and prayers for the people of Maui. We are committed to supporting the community and those affected by this disaster in the days and months and years to come."

The Fleetwood Mac founder said he is "heartbroken" at the loss of the restaurant, which he has owned since 2012

Fleetwood's on Front Street was a popular restaurant known for its American cuisine. It is located near the seafront in Lahaina and opened in 2012. Its website now includes a statement that it is "closed until further notice."

A wildfire that scorched the historic Hawaiian town and left it in charred ruins has killed at least 53 people, authorities have said, making it one of the deadliest disasters in the US state's history.

Brushfires on the west coast of Hawaii's Maui island - fuelled by high winds from a nearby hurricane - broke out on Tuesday and rapidly engulfed the seaside town of Lahaina.
