Irish singer/songwriter Tayyls (formerly Taylor Mas) has released her new single, Hindsight. We asked her the BIG questions . . .
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
Song writing is one of my favourite things to do. Every day I think about how I can make lyrics out of things that happen in my life and how I can fit them into a catchy melody. I really enjoy things like philosophy and psychology which has led me to a love for meditation. I do it almost every day and I can confidently say it has very much changed my life. I have a rescue greyhound called Penny. She is a giant, gentle, couch potato and everyone should have one.
How would you describe your music?
I think I would describe my music as 'mature' pop. It contains catchy melodies and production, but I like to have a balance in my lyrics between complexity and playfulness.
Who are your musical inspirations?
My musical inspirations are dominantly female songwriters. Such as Halsey, Taylor Swift, Paloma Faith, and Julia Michaels. It's women like these that have influenced me to write my own music and I admire their diversities.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
My first gig was S Club 7 when I was six years old.
What was the first record you ever bought?
I think it was Britney Spears' second album - Oops!... I Did It Again from 2000.
What's your favourite song right now?
Right now, I can't stop listening to What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish. The lyrics hit me hard and her voice is so beautiful.
Favourite lyric of all time?
This is a really hard question; I think my answer will always change but right now I have to pick these lyrics from Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift. 'Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism, Like some kind of congressman? I wake up screaming from dreaming, One day I'll watch as you're leaving, And life will lose all its meaning'. I find it highly impressive that she put this into a pop song.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Fix You by Coldplay. The lyrics are incredible, it's sad but uplifting and hopeful at the same time.
