The first trailer for a new Irish film, which sees new Late Late Show presenter Patrick Kielty in his first dramatic role, has been released today.

Ballywalter is described as a bittersweet comedy-drama set in Belfast and is the directorial debut of English actor Prasanna Puwanarajah.

Dublin actress Seána Kerslake, best known for her roles in Bad Sisters, A Date for Mad Mary and Irish horror film, The Hole in the Ground, co-stars as Eileen.

Kerslake's character is a university drop-out, whose dreams of a successful life in London have fallen by the wayside. She makes ends meet by working as a minicab driver.

Kielty plays Shane, who exiles himself in Ballywalter following the break-up of his marriage.

As he tries to get his life back on track, he enrolls in a stand-up comedy course. When Shane calls a taxi to get him to his classes, Eileen answers and a surprising connection is made.

Speaking about how the script won him over, Kielty said, "As someone who has done stand-up, there is a really fine line between a gig going well and you dying on your ass. You can analyse those moments, looking for that second, that word that changes everything.

"For someone like Shane, these really small things in his life could be the difference between him sailing along or bottoming out when he gets to Ballywalter."

Ballywalter hits cinemas on 22 September and you can watch the trailer here:
