Behind the music - Headshrinkers

Headshrinkers
Headshrinkers

UK indie band Headshrinkers have released their new single, Bang Bang. We asked them the BIG questions . . .

Speaking about the track, frontman Garran Hickman says, "Bang Bang is simply about wanting to enjoy yourself and to want to forget what is negative in your own world.

"It can be severely detrimental to constantly dwell on life's lulls. It’s a song about wanting to see friends, family and not wanting fun times to end.

"Bang Bang also comments on how it’s the people that make the greatest moments, not where you are - so wherever you’re from, it’s important to enjoy yourself."

He adds, "You can’t help how you feel when you wake up, some days are good, some days are bad, but it’s about taking life by the horns, not taking yourself too seriously and trying to enjoy it -because tomorrow is not promised."

Headshrinkers play: 27 August - Birmingham, What's Happening Weekender. 2 September - Brighton - The Pipeline. 14 September - London, Sebright Arms.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

We’re a working-class band from the Black Country, which is named after the Industrial Revolution in the West Midlands, UK. We’re trying to push where we’re from as much as we can, we want to build a scene in the Black Country for other bands to come through in the future. We want to leave our mark and be true to ourselves. Xavier our bassist loves to eat a rack of ribs minutes before a gig. If that’s not a talent, what is?

How would you describe your music?

Headshrinkers infuse their music with a rhythmic and chaotically nurtured noise, interwoven with alluring poetry.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I think The Cure and Fontaines D.C. are our biggest musical inspirations collectively. That said, I think you can hear a lot of different genres throughout our music as we’re all into a wide range of stuff.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

The Libertines, Birmingham 2013.

Favourite lyric of all time?

This is probably the hardest question of all time, it changes every day but today it probably is - "Now the song is nearly over, We may never find out what it means, Still there's a light I hold before me, You're the measure of my dreams." A Rainy Night in Soho by Shane McGowan and The Pogues.
