Mairéad's determination to stand up to DI McCabe takes a shocking twist in Sunday's Fair City on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player.
McCabe is out for revenge after Mairéad's drunken kiss with McCabe's ex-lover Maxine.
She has already tried to set Mairéad up on a fraud charge.
Sunday's drama begins as Mairéad tells Damien: "I'm going to bring McCabe down. I know you don't want me sticking my neck out."
"I'm just worried about you," says Damien.
"I can't let her get away with it," Mairéad replies.
Later, Mairéad and Damien are left reeling when they receive a visit from McCabe's garda colleague Fidelma - someone that they hoped would be an ally.
"I'll persuade her to make a statement so that you can be charged," Fidelma says to Mairéad.
"With what?" asks Mairéad.
"Sexual assault," replies Fidelma.
