Irish folk act Lankum are among the 12-strong shortlist for the Mercury Prize for album of the year.
The band are shortlisted for their fourth album, 2023's False Lankum. It is the first time Lankum have been nominated for the UK-based award, which honours music from the UK and Ireland.
Lankum's Daragh Lynch took the opportunity to pay his respects to Sinéad O'Connor.
He said: "I think in terms, particularly for like our generation, to see somebody in the public eye who's completely fearless and completely and utterly unafraid to say what she thought and what she believed in, in such a kind of like, restrictive conservative, religious kind of atmosphere, is completely inspirational."
This year's Mercury Prize shortlist features a host of other first-time nominees, including Raye with My 21st Century Blues, Olivia Dean with Messy and Jockstrap with I Love You Jennifer B.
Shygirl with Nymph, Ezra Collective with Where I'm Meant to Be, Fred Again with Actual Life 3 (January 1 - September 9 2022) and Loyle Carner with Hugo are also first-time nominees.
J Hus, a nominee in 2017, is back on the shortlist with his album Beautiful and Brutal Yard.
Jessie Ware, a nominee in 2012, is shortlisted for her album That! Feels Good!.
Arctic Monkeys, winners in 2006, are nominated for The Car.
Young Fathers, winners in 2014, are nominated for Heavy Heavy.
The winning album will be announced in London on Thursday 7 September.
