With new and very different movies Barbie and Oppenheimer due for release this Friday, the Light House cinema in Dublin and Pálás in Galway are gearing up for the phenomenon which has been christened 'Barbenheimer".

Barbie

Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie, and Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Cork actor Cillian Murphy, are expected to be two of the biggest movies of the summer season and both cinemas are offering audiences a chance to see both with early screenings.

Audiences at Pálás and the Light House can see Oppenheimer with midnight screenings on 35mm, while the Light House is offering 8am Breakfast with Barbie screenings.

"Whether you chose to come to Barbie or Oppenheimer or both and in whatever order, the real winner this weekend will be Team Cinema," says Alice Black Head of Programming at the cinema.

"We can't wait to welcome people and celebrate the magic of watching movies together on the big screen."

Light House members will also be offered a chance to see behind the scenes with scheduled projection booth tours with Projectionist Rob O'Brien.

Both cinemas will have complimentary Team Gerwig or Team Nolan (or both) badges available at box office.

Other types of screenings in both venues include Parent & Baby, Silver Screen, Open Caption, Sensory and a one-off Dog Friendly screening of Barbie in Pálás.

Audiences are advised that costumes are encouraged throughout the weekend and to look out for further themed events in the coming weeks such as Barbieoke in Light House.

Tickets are on sale from the Light House and Pálás.
