Pick of the Day

Earth, 9.00pm, BBC Two

This looks amazing.

Chris Packham presents this four-and-a-half-billion-year history of the planet, with each episode taking viewers on a journey through a pivotal moment when the Earth's future hung in the balance.

The story begins with one of the darkest periods in the planet's history 252 million years ago - the worst mass extinction it has ever seen, when as much as 90 per cent of all species died.

When a second victim is linked to the case the team is faced with the possibility of a double murder.

Jess and Sunny must now decipher which of the suspects is telling the truth so justice can finally be served.

24 Hours in A&E, 9.00pm, Channel 4

At Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre, 87-year-old Joan is brought in after falling on a moving tram and cutting open the back of her head.

Elsewhere, 19-year-old Rose faces life-changing injuries after being thrown into the air by a car, and 13-year-old Prince has broken his leg in three places playing football.

New or Returning Shows

The Sixth Commandment, 9.00pm, BBC One

Fact-based crime drama exploring the story of retired teacher Peter Farquhar, and the fatal relationship that developed with a charismatic student.

As a close bond develops between the two men, Peter finds himself suffering strange hallucinations and becomes uncertain of what has and hasn't happened.

The cast has an Irish angle as it includes Cork actor Éanna Hardwicke, as well as Anne Reid and Sheila Hancock.

Only Connect, 8.00pm, BBC Two

Victoria Coren Mitchell (below) returns for a 19th season with the quiz based on patience and lateral thinking, with the Cribbagers taking on the Gunners in the opening heat.

The teams try to draw together the connections between things that at first glance seem utterly random, with one set of clues asking what links horseshoe, pencil, walrus and handlebar.

University Challenge, 8.30pm, BBC Two

Amol Rajan (below) takes over hosting duties from Jeremy Paxman as the academic quiz returns for its 30th season since the revival of the show in 1994.

The opening match of the first round sees Trinity College, Cambridge taking on the University of Manchester.

How to Build a Dinosaur, 8.00pm, BBC Four

Dr Alice Roberts discovers how to put a dinosaur skeleton back together, complete with muscles, correct posture and, in some cases, the correct skin colour.

The creatures died out 65 million years ago and full skeletons are rarely found.

A Stitch Through Time, 8.00pm, BBC One

In this brand-new series, Claire McCollum presents this show in which four aspiring fashion designers take on challenges inspired by Ulster's once mighty textile industry.

They begin by creating outfits from pre-loved cotton shirts, inspired by the story of Scottish entrepreneur William Tillie and the success of Foyleside’s shirt factories.

Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Jesse Smith, Sophia Lillis and Chloe Coleman star in this fantasy adventure.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

Tankee’s Super Luigi Galaxy, Sky Kids & NOW

Move over Mario, it’s Luigi Time!

Gamer, Nintendo Ambassador, and family-friendly content creator Abdullah Smash presents this LetsPlay series of the iconic Super Mario Galaxy – but with a twist.

By already beating the game with Mario and collecting all 120 stars, we can now experience the game one more time, but under the green hat of his older brother Luigi.

With a much higher jump, but noticeably less grip, it’s a whole new experience for fans of Mario games.
