Singer and actor Ricky Martin, 51, and his husband Jwan Yosef have confirmed that they are set to divorce.

The Livin' La Vida Loca singer met Yosef, a Syrian-Swedish artist, in 2015 and they married in 2017.

A statement posted on both of their Instagram accounts on Thursday said: "For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship, and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children - preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years.

"Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on our genuine friendship as we continue the joint upbringing of our children."

The pair's statement

The pair finished their statements by thanking their fans for "all the love and support we received throughout our marriage."

Yosef's statement was posted in English, while Martin's post was in Spanish.

Martin and Yosef said that they are ending their marriage with "love, respect and dignity" for their children

The pair share two children, daughter Lucia, born in 2018, and son Renn, born in 2019, who Martin has described in the past as "Irish twins".

Puerto Rican entertainer Martin also has two other children, 14-year old twins Matteo and Valentino, who he raises as a single parent. All of his children were born via surrogate. Martin came out as gay in 2010.

He is widely credited as being a key figure in bringing mainstream recognition to Latin pop music.

He has sold 70 million records worldwide, has won two Grammy awards and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
