Pick of the Day: WHAM!, Netflix

Andrew Ridgeley and the late George Michael of Wham!

This 90-minute film about 80s pop phenomenon Wham! documents the band’s meteoric rise and how in four years, they dominated charts around the world and created Whamania.

This film promises to give a "genuinely authentic account" of the band’s incredible journey from school friends to superstars, using never-before-seen footage and candid interviews from bandmates Andrew Ridgeley and the late George Michael.

Chris Smith, director of other major Netflix hits including docuseries Tiger King and Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, is at the helm of this fun, nostalgic and celebratory film.

Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, Disney+

Today sees the launch of a new ten-part animated sci-fi anthology series, which is Disney+’s first African animated project.

Each short film depicts a different vision of a dystopian future inspired by and delivered through the lens of African history, culture, and people.

Creators, directors and artists from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe worked on this series, which draws heavy inspiration from 2018 Marvel superhero blockbuster Black Panther.

Expectation is high as Peter Ramsey, the co-director of the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, is one of the executive producers.

Mamma Mia! RTE One, 9.35pm

Mamma Mia! was released 15 years ago this year

If you're in the mood for a serious dose of cheese, check out ABBA’s musical comedy, Mamma Mia! on RTÉ One tonight, which was a box-office juggernaut when released in 2008.

Starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, and set on a stunning Greek island, the story follows bride Sophie (played by Amanda Seyfried) as she invites three of her mother's old flames to her wedding, in the hope of figuring out which one of them is her father.

Reportedly Pierce Brosnan had little idea of what the project entailed when he signed up for it, mainly committing as he badly wanted to work with Streep – a fact that makes his singing scenes all the more entertaining.

The Reunion, RTÉ2, 10.35pm
