Speaking about Reminder, they say, "We exaggerated this concept greatly to the point where this person goes through life convinced that they are the lead protagonist of a movie/TV show.
"The entirety of the song is essentially a wakeup call for this person. A not-so-subtle reminder that they need to come back and face reality."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
We are an indie rock band from Galway that formed back in 2019. Our writing process is a little different in that we each contribute to both lyrics and melody. This means it takes a little longer but it’s ultimately worth it for the end product. Also, just a fun fact about the band; none of us have ever been to a festival before, so our first time will be when we play at Sea Sessions in mid-June.
How would you describe your music?
Our songs are quite melodic and dare I say, catchy. We do focus a lot on lyrics, and we often try to create a storyboard/character profile for our songs before we even begin writing the lyrics.
The instrumentation of our songs varies, but whether it be a stripped back acoustic oriented track, or a heavier vibe with distorted guitars and synth lines, we like to think a certain Rosecaps energy shines through.
Who are your musical inspirations?
It’s hard to pinpoint any one artist, but as a band we collectively take a lot of inspiration from Arctic Monkeys and The Killers, as they essentially formed the soundtrack to our early lives. On a more individual level, our taste actually varies quite a bit from band member to band member, with artists ranging from The Smiths and The Beatles to Two Door Cinema Club and Paolo Nutini.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Dom was probably the youngest when he went to his first gig and that was a Foo Fighters concert in Slane Castle, so the bar was set pretty high after that.
What was the first record you ever bought?
A record we definitely all had growing up was + by Ed Sheeran. While it’s hard to know if it was the very first record we all bought, it is definitely the most memorable. We each have our own personal stories of listening to that album in the car on various road trips, or how excited we were when we discovered the bonus hidden track on the album closer.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Blue Monday by New Order, across the board.
Favourite lyric of all time?
When Pitbull rhymed Kodak with Kodak in Give Me Everything. That's definitely Emmet's favourite anyways.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits. Not sure about the rest of us, but this question practically already applies to Daniel because he seems to listen to it that much as it is.
Where can people find your music/more information?
We are on all social media platforms but we mainly use Instagram so you can keep an eye out there for any upcoming gigs and releases @therosecaps. Our music is on all major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, YouTube, the lot. So definitely give us a follow and a listen if you're looking for some decent music.
