Schitt's Creek star's dad is a 'very proud Irish man'

Schitt's Creek Annie Murphy has revealed that she has Irish heritage, has visited Co Carlow and is a huge fan of Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy.

The Canadian actress, best known as Alexis in the Emmy-winning comedy series, told RTÉ Entertainment: "I do have Irish roots!"

"They’re not as immediate as I would like, but my great-grandfather’s from Ireland and my dad, Frank Murphy, is a very proud Irishman, even though it was his grandfather so yeah, it’s in the blood."

When asked if she's ever visited Ireland, the 36-year-old actress said: "I have. My family are from County Carlow, and so I went over with my folks a little while ago and we did a whole tour of where all my ancestors were.

"I want to come back so badly - it’s so beautiful over there."

When asked which Irish actor she most admired, she said: "Cillian Murphy."

"I could look at his face in terror and lust all day long - I think he's so incredible."

The Emmy-nominated actress is starring in a new Dreamworks animated movie, Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken, which is out on 30 June.
