Limerick trio Static Vision have released their new single, I Got Her Number. We asked them the BIG questions . . .
The band, led by Cian O' Dowd (guitar, vocals) brother Tom O' Dowd (bass) and Toby Shane (drums). Since Cian O' Dowd, formed in 2017 and released their first EP Faith in the Future in 2019.
Speaking about the new song, Cian says, "It's a song that gives me a lot of nostalgia as being a teenager back in the day getting a girl's number was the best thing in the world.
"I miss that feeling. As you get older (being 26 now) it's weird as that exciting feeling gets replaced by how much you can get off your groceries using a voucher card instead."
The video for I Got Her Number was shot in Limerick city by Shane Joyce and tells the story of a nerd who transforms into a rockstar to get the girl of his dreams.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
We are Ireland's tallest band standing at 6 foot 7, 6 foot 5 and 6 foot 4. We can all play bass guitar. We love to swim.
How would you describe your music?
Loud, youthful, and heavy. It has a mix of everything. Anything with a great melody is an inspiration to me, that could range from The Kinks songwriting to 50 Cent.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Ramones, Pixies, Pavement, The Stooges and Nirvana. We mainly also love DIY bands as we have our own home studio we built in our garage recently, so we always try and learn from their approach on how to record our music. It's a long painful process but we feel there's definitely something about doing it all yourself that gives the sound a bit of an edge.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Kings of Leon at Oxygen festival with our dad when we were 10 years old. We were very lucky. Anyone who remembers that festival knows those were the golden days.
What was the first record you ever bought?
The Slim shady LP. Well, actually this was my first attempt at buying a record but the girl behind the counter wouldn't sell it to me because I was underage and wasn't with a parent. So, I ended up actually buying Demon Days by Gorillaz as my first record.
What's your favourite song right now?
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak. We are huge Thin Lizzy fans in the band. The new documentary on YouTube Outlawed is amazing and everyone who's into music should watch it. What a story.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Wine in the morning and some breakfast at night, Well, I’m beginning to see the light" - Lou Reed
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pagan Baby - Creedence Clearwater Revival. I think CCR are the best band of all time for writing hit songs. Walk into any pub and you'll hear them being played. Their music will never die.
Where can people find your music/more information?
Spotify would be and our Spotify bio has our story also! We also have music videos on our YouTube channel that are worth checking out.
