Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis has confirmed the Arctic Monkeys will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday night after they cancelled their show in Dublin on Tuesday.

The rock band pulled out of their sold-out gig at Marlay Park as frontman Alex Turner had acute laryngitis.

A statement from the band was released on Monday, it said: "We are extremely sorry to announce the cancellation of the Arctic Monkeys show at Marlay Park in Dublin tomorrow.

"Alex is suffering from acute laryngitis, and following medical advice, has been ordered to rest."

Fans feared they would also cancel their headline slot at Glastonbury, however, revellers clapped and cheered when Eavis confirmed they will appear at the UK festival tonight.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on her BBC Radio 2 show Eavis said: "It was a little bit close there for a minute and we were thinking about whether we should have a serious backup plan in place, but no, thankfully they’re on, so that’s great."

Hozier will play Glastonbury on Friday night

In a surprise announcement, Hozier has confirmed he will also perform at Glastonbury on Friday.

The Irish singer-songwriter said he is "thrilled" to be taking on a slot which was previously marked "to be confirmed" at 7.30pm on the Woodsies stage.

He posted on social media: "Thrilled to announce I'll be playing @glastofest again in a not-so-secret set this evening (Friday)!

"See you at 7.30pm, WoodSIES stage."
