Colm Meaney and his New York City-born daughter Brenda Meaney are joining forces to star in a new version of the play Bedbound, to be staged in Dublin this August.
Speaking on The Ryan Tubridy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 about how the pair got involved in the project, the Love/Hate actress explained: "I did a play in New York a couple of years ago called Little Gem, which you might know.
"It's a beautiful Irish play and I worked with a wonderful director, Marc Atkinson. He brought Bedbound to me and said, 'I've got this this crazy idea, it's about a father and a daughter. It might be great for you and your dad. They happen to be trapped in a bed. What d’ya think?'"
She continued, "I read the play and... it was terrifying, the play was terrifying.
"It's vast and unwieldy and full of juicy, terrifying, dark, funny, funny things, and I was like, 'Woooh, I want to do that'.
"So I said [to Atkinson], this sounds amazing - you bring it to Dad."
When asked about doing the play, written by Enda Walsh, Colm Meaney replied, "It was a slow burner, Ryan! A slow burner.
"I read the play, and like Brenda, it was both terrifying and fascinating.
"I play a furniture salesperson, and Brenda plays a polio-stricken daughter - the two of us trapped in a room that I have built with internal walls."
Bedbound will be at the 3Olympia Theatre for six performances only, from 8 - 12 August and tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
