After directing and starring in his very own spy thriller Blackbird, Michael Flatley has revealed that he is working on telling his life story in a new TV drama series.

Described as a "no holds barred biopic", the six-part series, currently being developed by UK company StoryFirst, has the working title of Dancelord.

It will chart Flatley's childhood years and will also document the moment he found fame with his work on Riverdance.

Variety reports that the new series is being written by Micho Rutare, who previously wrote on TV series Z Nation and worked as a 'development executive' in the cult Sharknado films.

No casting has been announced as yet.

The synopsis for the new show reads: "For every transcendent moment onstage, Flatley endures gruelling hours of pain and the loneliness of the road.

"Taunted by the media and, at times, doubted by everyone but his fans, Flatley bounces back time and again, dancing from his heart well into middle age and transforming Irish dance forever."

Speaking the show, the 64-year-old Irish American dance star said: "I’m honoured and humbled to be able to share my story with the world and confident that StoryFirst will deliver an inspirational and, hopefully, motivational message to people everywhere. If you work hard and follow your dreams, then nothing is impossible."

Executive producer Rod Gunner added: "I’ve known Michael for many years, and it never ceases to amaze me how he consistently confronts adversity head on, in everything he does, whatever the odds, and never considers potential defeat.

"The Dancelord series dramatically demonstrates that remarkable determination to his legion of fans all over the world, whilst illustrating his unique talent."

Flatley shot to fame after he performed in Riverdance at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin in 1994. He went on to produce his own Lord of the Dance, which is currently on its 25th anniversary tour.

Lord Of The Dance debuted at the Point Theatre in Dublin and went on to tour in 70 countries across six continents.

Flatley has created and produced a number of other productions in his lifetime, including Feet Of Flames and Celtic Tiger.

Earlier this year he underwent surgery for an "aggressive form of cancer".
