Kodaline guitarist Mark Prendergast has unveiled the first single from his new solo project, Man Alive.

Prendergast said that the song, Be Someone, was inspired by a break-up and "is about a long-distance relationship falling apart, and how when you're with somebody, they make you feel like a certain type of person - but then when you end the relationship and you're by yourself, you always become a completely different person."

The singer says that his friend, comedian and actress Aisling Bea, was a pivotal influence in him releasing solo material, after he played her an early version of the song back in 2021 and she responded positively.

The This Way Up star also convinced Prendergast to change his solo artist alias from "Blood Type" to "Man Alive".

The Kodaline co-founder, guitarist and co-songwriter has already achieved huge global success with Kodaline, reaching one billion streams globally as well as having three number one albums in Ireland.
