Tina, 6.50pm, Sky Documentaries
If you haven’t seen this HBO documentary before, it’s well worth a look. The late Tina Turner lived enough life for a dozen others.
Born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939, she sold in excess of 100 million records and earned numerous plaudits including Grammy awards and induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame with her infamous first husband, Ike Turner.
She was the first woman to grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and dabbled in acting including a memorable performance opposite Mel Gibson in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
Following a prolonged period of ill health, Turner decided to retire from the spotlight with her second husband, Erwin Bach.
This documentary was effectively a final farewell to her fans as she retired from showbiz to live in Switzerland.
Directed by Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin, the film invites the singer to reminisce about her turbulent life and career with glowing contributions from friends, family and fans including Oprah Winfrey and Angela Bassett.
