Caitríona Perry has signed off for the final time as co-presenter of RTÉ's Six One News.

Bidding farewell in her last bulletin, she thanked the viewers and colleagues.

"Thanks to all the news team - everyone in front of and behind the camera who keep the show on the road.

"And a really big thank you to our viewers over the years, and to those who've sent messages wishing me well. Thank you for your kindness.

"It's been an honour and privilege to work for RTÉ News but a new chapter begins for me now - so for one last time, that was Friday's Six One News.

"From all the team, thanks for watching. Have a great weekend and do take care. Bye bye."

Co-presenter David McCullagh wished Ms Perry well, saying: "On behalf of all of us, it has been a pleasure working with you, and we will all miss you."

Ms Perry is leaving RTÉ after almost 16 years to take up a job in the US.

Previously an RTÉ Washington Correspondent, she will return to Washington for a new international role as chief presenter with the BBC.

Announcing her move earlier this month, she said it was really hard to say goodbye, and that she was leaving with a "mix of sadness and excitement".

"It was a tough decision to walk away from RTÉ. It is an institution in Irish life, but I have been offered an incredible opportunity.

"I wish to say a special thank you to the RTÉ audience, the viewers, listeners and readers who have afforded me the extraordinary privilege of being a public service broadcast journalist."
