Pop legend Kylie Minogue has released a new single, with its video racking up 600,000 views on YouTube in 24 hours.

The upbeat techno-pop track, Padam Padam, debuted on YouTube on Thursday.

The video, which was shot in LA, shows Kylie in a variety of red outfits, taking part in a high-energy dance routine with a troupe of dancers, all clad in the same colour. It's thought that the song's title is onomatopoeia for a heartbeat.

The release precedes the Australian singer's upcoming album, Tension, set for release in September.

The star, 54, says the album will be a "blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high."

Minogue has been in the music business for 36 years, since she burst onto the music scene in 1987 with her cover version of Locomotion.

The singer is best known for classic hits Especially For You and I Should Be So Lucky, as well as huge noughties successes, Spinning Around, Slow and Can't Get You Out of My Head.
