Wild Youth Liverpooling the dream at Eurovision

Ireland's Wild Youth have described competing in Eurovision as "one of the greatest things we've done as a band".

Singer Conor O'Donohue was speaking to RTÉ ahead of tonight's first semi-final in Liverpool.

The band will perform We Are One in the contest and are sixth in the running order.

O'Donohue said that performing in Liverpool feels like being close to home, and he has felt huge energy from the Eurovision fans in the city.

The quartet face tough competition - the first semi-final is seen as the toughest of the two and features some of the contest favourites, including Loreen from Sweden, the Eurovision winner in 2012.

But O'Donohue said that Wild Youth are very happy with their staging and performance so far.

He told RTÉ that it is up to the band now to deliver, saying there is "nothing an incredible performance can't change".

The frontman said that the band were always huge fans of Eurovision, and taking part in the contest has seen them visiting new countries and meeting new fans and friends.

He added that the experience so far has been amazing.

The semi-final at Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena begins on RTÉ One, RTÉ Radio 1 and the RTÉ Player at 8:00pm.

The second semi-final takes place on Thursday night.

The grand final is on Saturday.
