'Huge shoes to fill' on Late Late, says Patrick Kielty

Patrick Kielty has told RTÉ Entertainment that whoever takes over the Late Late Show from host Ryan Tubridy will have "huge shoes to fill".

The comedian and presenter was on the red carpet at the Irish Film and Television Awards in Dublin on Sunday night with his wife and fellow presenter Cat Deeley when he was asked about the speculation that he would be taking over as Late Late host.

"I've only really a couple of things to say on that," the Co Down man replied at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre - after first looking to Deeley.

"I think the Late Late Show is one of the greatest TV shows on the planet, and whoever gets it is going to be really lucky."

"But I think something that maybe hasn't been said: I've done chat shows before, I know how difficult they are," Kielty continued.

"I've been a guest on the Late Late Show, and I've sat alongside Ryan doing his stuff, and whoever gets that gig, they're going to have huge shoes to fill.

"Because what he does, week after week, I don't think people appreciate him as much as they should, because Ryan is absolutely world-class, and he's the best in the business."

With that, Kielty and Deeley departed to enjoy their night as the speculation entered another week.
