Dublin singer-songwriter Basil Breen has released Nelson, the first single from his debut album. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

The song was produced by Rob Mac at Startup CBA and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Alex Gordan.

Basil performs regularly at The International Bar's Circle Sessions in Dublin and the Smithfield’s Creatives. He has also played in Sin E, The Millbank theatre, and the Sea Sessions Unsigned Sessions in Donegal.

He will also perform at this year’s Ballymaloe Garden Festival and The Works festival.

Basil is also a software engineer hosts his own podcast, The Basil Breen Boombox, where he talks with other emerging artists, poets, entrepreneurs, and creatives.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I am a software engineer. I have a podcast. I can walk on my hands.

How would you describe your music?

Folk-pop cantered around heartbreak, love, and optimism.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Christy Moore, Bob Marley, MGMT, David Bowie, The Beatles.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Planet Love circa 2009.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Guns N' Roses - Greatest Hits CD.

What’s your favourite song right now?

ABBA - Move On.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Off the top of my head... "And off goes the bell ringing in my head, signifies that all’s been said". The Bell - Villagers.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Bat Out of Hell - Meat Loaf.
