UK indie pop artist Fran Minney has released her new single, Love Game. We asked her the BIG questions . . .
Love Game is the second track from her new EP Conversations With Ground explorkng the anatomy of a failing relationship and the conflicting emotions that come with it.
"I wrote Love Game about that period of mourning a toxic relationship where all the pain turns to wrath. It's all about yearning for revenge and regaining your power after feeling helpless." she says.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I am cat mother to a little lady called Phoebe Bonsoir (AKA Fleeb/Boobah/Feebs). My favourite place to be is in the woods (sounds creepier than it is, I promise). I am a recent ABBA convert - where has Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! been all my life?!
How would you describe your music?
The main thread in my music is that whatever the genre, it’s deeply personal and influenced hugely by themes of mental health and relationships. I love using nature themes and often what comes out could be described as shimmering and colourful folk pop. Some of the newer stuff has gone a bit darker though!
Who are your musical inspirations?
Hozier is a massive inspiration, as well as Regina Spektor, The Japanese House, Half Moon Run and Aurora.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
S Club 7! What a night.
What was the first record you ever bought?
It’s hard to remember for sure but it was probably Love Metal by HIM - I used to be OBSESSED.
What’s your favourite song right now?
You’re Still The One by Shania Twain.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Such a hard call but I think Peach PRC is an incredible lyricist and the first that comes to mind is "Thanks to you, gentle hands still resemble demands, Loving lips on my mouth, feel like currency now." It’s such a powerful line.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This is incredibly hard but I’m going to say Nobody by Hozier.
Where can people find your music/more information?
You can find me all over the internet! My website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Songkick, Bandsintown, Spotify, Tiktok, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon Music, Tidal.
