Wild Youth split with creative director because of 'differences in beliefs'

Irish Eurovision hopefuls Wild Youth have said they split with creative director Ian Banham because of "differences in beliefs".

Wild Youth are representing Ireland at Eurovision in Liverpool next month, and Banham had been working with them on their entry We Are One.

On Tuesday, Wild Youth tweeted that they were "cutting all ties" with Banham.

They also said that the band "stands for unity and kindness" and that We Are One represents their beliefs.

Wild Youth are due to compete in the first Eurovision semi-final on 9 May and speaking to RTÉ, lead singer Conor O'Donohue said the split happened because of "differences in beliefs" but that their performance will go ahead as planned.

He said the band are "hands-on" creatively, and they know how they want the staging to go and that their vision for the song is still there.

RTÉ has confirmed that Banham is no longer part of the Eurovision 2023 team but did not comment further today.

Banham has been contacted for comment.

The Eurovision Song Contest grand final takes place in Liverpool on Saturday 13 May, with Ireland competing in the first semi-final on Tuesday 9 May.
