School for Scoundrels, 9.00pm, BBC Four
Here’s one of those British comedies that seem to come from another galaxy, never mind the mid-20th Century. Still great fun though.
Starring Ian Carmichael, Terry-Thomas, Alastair Sim and Janette Scott, it’s the story of a timid company owner. He’s a jolly good chap - but he’s had enough.
He is pushed around by his employees, deceived by a car salesman, humiliated by a waiter and finally loses his girlfriend to a dastardly rival. Rotters one and all!
Salvation comes in the form of an unusual college dedicated to teaching students how to succeed through being manipulative and devious, and he sets about getting even with his enemies.

The Diplomat, Netflix
Keri Russell – who was amazing in The Americans – stars in this glossy drama that looks like a cross between Scandal and Madam Secretary.
Amid an international crisis, a career diplomat juggles her new high-profile job as ambassador to the UK and her turbulent marriage to a political star.
To add to complications, she’s married the former ambassador, Hal, played by Rufus Swell. He’s not accustomed to playing second fiddle.
Rory Kinnear and Celia Imrie also star. Which is nice.
