Showbiz world pays tribute to 'sound' Mark Sheehan

Well-known names from the world of music and showbiz have taken to social media to pay tribute to The Script's Mark Sheehan who has died at the age of 46.

Sheehan died in hospital after a brief illness the Dublin band announced on their social media platforms on Friday.

Fellow Dubliner Imelda May paid tribute on Twitter, describing Sheehan as a "talented, sound, calm, down to earth, really lovely human".

Irish rock band Kodaline said in a statement: "So sorry to hear the passing of Mark Sheehan.

"We had the great fortune of getting to spend time in his company over the years and was always such a lovely man. Deepest condolences to his family and his @thescript brothers."

In a statement posted on Instagram, TV presenter Laura Whitmore wrote: "Thinking of you all at this time.

"Mark was one of the nicest and most talented men you could meet."

In their own Instagram tribute, pop twins Jedward said: "Everyone in the Irish music industry and worldwide mourn your loss RIP Mark such a talented musician from The Script one of the most iconic Irish groups of our generation."

Danny O'Reilly of The Coronas also paid tribute. "Shocked and saddened," he wrote. "Mark was always so lovely and encouraging to us. Our thoughts are with all the Script family. RIP"

Taking to Twitter, Minister for Arts Catherine Martin, described Sheehan's death as "a great shock to music lovers everywhere and to The Script's legions of fans around the world".
