Behind the music - The Remedy Club

The Remedy Club

Irish roots band The Remedy Club have released new single Roll With It and their new album, Back To You, follows on 28 May. We asked lead singer Aileen Mythen the BIG questions . . .

Their last album True Hand True Heart saw them working with five-time Grammy winner, Ray Kennedy (Steve Earle, Lucinda Wiliams, Sheryl Crow) where they recorded in Room and Board Studios, Nashville.

The album was RTÉ Radio One's album of the week and included in Hot Press magazine's top 10 folk albums of the year. Back To You was recorded and co-produced by Gavin Glass and features Aongus Ralston (The Waterboys) on bass and Michael Buckley and Ronan Dooney (Van Morrison) on brass.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I voice cartoon characters including animations for Oscar-nominated Brown Bag Films and Disney. I am a mother of a very energetic and effervescent seven-year-old. I have been a natural born vegetarian since I was a child (the only one in the village!).

How would you describe your music?

A marriage of folk, country, soul, and roots with nimble guitar playing and delicious harmonies.

Who are your influences?

Brandi Carlile, Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, Imelda May, Declan O'Rourke, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, First Aid Kit, Steve Earle, Jason Isbell, Lucinda Williams, Linda Ronstadt. I could keep going!

What was the first concert you ever went to?

Kylie Minogue tickets I won over the phone with my cousin. We definitely earned them with the amount of phone calls we made! Our parents were not happy, but it was so worth it!

What was the first record you ever bought/downloaded?

Nirvana Unplugged. I had just returned from Denmark with a fake nose ring and thought I was pretty cool!

What's your favourite song at the moment?

Emmylou by First Aid Kit. I have so many great memories built into this song. It never fails to lift my mood and remind me of the magic and power of music and the intimate connection you get when you sing together.

What's your favourite lyric of all time?

Most lyrics from the Dylan bible. "There’s not even room enough to be anywhere. It' s not dark yet but it's getting there.''

Where can people find your music and information?

My website, Facebook, Instagram.
