Dublin-based post-dream/shoegaze band INGOODFRM have released their new single, Nosedive. We asked writer, recorder, mixer, and frontman Seán Brunswick the BIG questions . . .
Formed by ex-members of the band Father!, which faded away with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, INGOODFRM is a collective of architecture and design school graduates who bring a unique sense of creativity and visual artistry to their music.
INGOODFRM play Whelan's midnight hour in celebration of the release of Nosedive on 8 April with support from Bedrooms.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I struggle to tell people one single thing about myself on the best of days - so I'll speak generally about the band. We begrudgingly hold the world record for highest turnover in lead guitarists across male-fronted Dublin based alternative rock bands - but no way is this a reflection on our personalities. We have a true DIY ethic, recording and releasing our music and organising shows around the city centre with bands that we want to play with. Bombshell - not a single one of us is a Dub even though we succumb to labels such as 'sons of Dublin' and 'true Dubliners'.
How would you describe your music?
Dreamy junk-rock at a punchy 160bpm.
Who are your musical inspirations?
My dad, my friends, Kevin Shields' screaming Jazzmaster and anyone who self-releases music in the face of adversity.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
U2 - 360 Tour, Croke Park, 2009. No shame. Republic of Loose stole the show anyways.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Ayo Technology - 50 Cent ft. Justin Timberlake. Again, no shame.
What’s your favourite song right now?
They Are Gutting a Body of Water by Eightball. They're as visceral as the name suggests.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet/You don't have to drink right now /But you can dip your feet/ Every once in a little while."
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Death by Preoccupations. It's powerful, complex, raw, therapeutic - above all, an emotional trip.
Where can people find your music/more information?
Our tracks are on Bandcamp and across all the usual streaming sites. We don't have a website but all you'd ever need to know will be on our Instagram @ingoodfrm.
