Ahead of his run of live rehearsal shows in Dublin's Academy this week and his sold-out shows at Malahide Castle and Killarney’s INEC this June, Hozier has released the video for his latest single, Eat Your Young.
The title track of his new EP, which was released on St Patrick’s Day, the track was written by Hozier and the video co-stars Ukrainian actress Ivanna Sakhno.
The video follows a theatre piece consisting of two stages working in tandem with one another, with "one stage, viewed by adults, on which the characters lose something as they engage with their world, and another stage, watched by children, where that which has been lost becomes visible".
Speaking about the promo film, Hozier says, "I want to thank the incredible Ivanna Sakhno for bringing her talent, skill, and care to this piece.
"The marvellous Jillian Meyers for keeping us all in step and the wonderful Han of Handsome Devils Puppets for recreating Ivanna and me for the stage. Thank you also to Jason Lester, our wonderful director, and Laura at Our Secret Handshake. I hope you enjoy our little horror story :)"
The Eat Your Young EP features songs from Hozier’s forthcoming LP Unreal Unearth due later this year and touches on the album’s exploration of Dante’s Inferno while reflecting upon two of the nine circles of hell: gluttony and heresy.
Recently, Hozier stopped by the Columbia Records offices in New York to celebrate Take Me To Church becoming RIAA-certified Diamond. Ranked the 30th most listened to song on Spotify.
The track is the 103rd song to ever achieve the rare milestone of Diamond certification, the only song by an Irish artist, and the highest certified solo Alternative single in RIAA history.
