Behind the music - Luka

Her name is Luka
Her name is Luka

UK-based singer-songwriter Luka has released his new single, Until Then. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

Speaking about the track, Luka says, "I wanted to write a love song that highlighted the difficulties of mental health struggles in relationships, as people are complex and even good relationships have challenges.

"It's about the feeling of wanting to give everything to somebody to make them happy but struggling yourself. Most of the song was written and recorded in my room in London with the strings bass and slide guitar added in Leeds at the begging of 2023."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I'm a big fan of horror and spooky stuff. I like crocodiles and have a crocodile tattoo. I don’t like peanut butter.

How would you describe your music?

I’d describe it as sad indie/folky music. Most of my songs are quite melancholic feeling.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I grew up listening to David Bowie and Radiohead a lot which I think inspired me to get into music and start writing songs myself, so I’d definitely say they’ve been a big influence. I’m also very inspired by film and tv and like to use fiction to inspire my songs. My main musical inspirations at the moment however would probably be Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish and Leith Ross.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

The first gig I remember going to was Radiohead at the o2 in London. I went to lots of festivals as a kid and saw lots of gigs there but none that I can fully remember!

What was the first record you ever bought?

The first record I bought was probably the Juno soundtrack. I downloaded it to my iPod and listened to it constantly when I was around ten.

What’s your favourite song right now?

(You) on My Arm - Leith Ross. It’s a really nice, uplifting song and I have it on repeat at the moment.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"Everything’s growing in our garden, you don’t have to know that it’s haunted" - Phoebe Bridgers Garden Song.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I Know the End - Phoebe Bridgers. It’s one of my favourite songs and I never get tired of it. The change in vibe halfway through also makes it almost feel like two separate songs, so I kind of get two songs in one.

Where can people find your music/more information?
