Irish alt-pop artist Crybabyamy has released her new track 6am (Untitled). We asked her the BIG questions . . .
Crybabyamy describes herself "a 20-year-old cry baby" and is "writing, producing, and singing her way to removing the shame that comes with being somebody who spontaneously bursts into tears at the worst of times".
6am (Untitled) is her second release since signing a publishing deal with BMG and was written and recorded at home tells the story of falling in love with someone in a matter of days and feeling really heartbroken when it doesn't work out.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I cry a lot. I’m shy! These are two things I think are wonderful.
How would you describe your music?
Honest. Heartfelt. A stream of consciousness. It’s ironic to say because I write my own music but highly relatable.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Growing up it was definitely Adele, vocally! I sang her song Someone Like You so many times as a child that I became slightly sick of it. My dad was a DJ so thankfully I’ve been able absorb all kinds of music old to new.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
It was actually a Kygo concert. When I was a teenager, I adored his music, and he is a melodical genius. He was actually a big part of me deciding to produce my own music.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Welcome to My Island by Caroline Polachek and Part of The Band by the 1975.
Favourite lyric of all time?
A lyric that stuck with me for some reason, "You know I lost my mind about a thousand times because it could’ve been easy." It articulates a very strong feeling I’ve had many times.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
We Are The People by Empire of The Sun. I think you could both aggressively cry and euphorically dance to this song if you wanted to.
Where can people find your music/more information?
You can find my new song 6am under Crybabyamy on any streaming platforms. I mostly use my Instagram @iamcrybabyamy.
