Bristol-based rock multi-instrumentalist Lucky Thief has released his new single, Silencer. We asked him the BIG questions . . .
Giving up piano at the age of 10, Lucky Thief never cared for music lessons; instead, he taught himself every instrument you hear in his music.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Lucky Thief explains, "Silencer is about being unable to control how we speak. So many people have opinions that are narrow minded, selfish and ill-considered; This song airs my frustration with them.
"It also looks at how hard it is for me to stay quiet, if I feel something deserves to be said, I will not be silenced."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I'm a self-taught multi-instrumentalist from Bristol. Is that one or three? I layer up all the instruments you'd hear in a 'rock’ band as well as do the vocals. I’m currently rehearsing with my live band to start playing shows towards the end of the year. I can’t wait to take these songs live.
How would you describe your music?
Energetic, fuzzy, melodic.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Some previous band mates showed me Queens of the Stone Age which was an absolute game changer for me. Around that time, I also got into Deftones and Radiohead but there's so many other inspirations that go into Lucky Thief.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
First ever gig I went to was Metallica aged 13 with my mate and his dad at Earls Court. Some of my mate's Dad's air bassing was incredible.
What was the first record you ever bought?
First album was Now 43, has a load of bangers on and first single was Britney Spears, Hit me Baby, One More Time. Also a banger.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Slowthai - Selfish.
Favourite lyric of all time?
'You can't fire me cos I quit' Nirvana - Scentless Apprentice.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably Beware by Deftones as it has the heaviest end riff that could go on forever and I wouldn't care.
