KIN star Yasmin Seky has told RTÉ Entertainment that it was crucial that her character Nikita in the RTÉ One crime-drama felt like a real person and not a caricature.

The Dubliner is relishing her deeper role in the episodes of season two as the show explores Nikita's relationship with wannabe crime boss Eric 'Viking' Kinsella, played by co-star Sam Keeley.

"The one thing that I was really conscious of when I was taking the character - I didn't want her to come across as gimmicky," said Seky. "You can always throw on a pair of thigh-highs and prance around and, you know, pretend to be from the inner city.

"I didn't want that. I wanted her to actually feel like a character, feel like a person, and I think this year and in this season I really got to play with the range of emotions that she has.

"In terms of the response that I've been getting back so far, it's that she just feels really natural, she feels like a real person. I feel like that's kind of the best compliment that you can get as an actor."

As for what lies ahead for Nikita and Eric, she continued: "They're one of the relationships within the series - there's not really another solid relationship in it.

"It feels like Eric and Nikita really want it to work. They want to be together, they want to be safe. They confide in each other, and they trust each other...

"She wouldn't leave; they love each other, they've grown up with each other. Me and Sam worked really hard to make it seem like they had a really intimate relationship."

"It's always too late before you see what's happening," Seky added cryptically.
