Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth have announced that they are to divorce after almost 12 years of marriage.
Ahead of the Oscar winner and talent agent's 12th anniversary on Sunday, they released a joint statement that read: "We have some personal news to share... It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce.
"We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together."
"Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter," Witherspoon and Toth added.
"These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone's respect for our family's privacy at this time."
US magazine People reports that Witherspoon and Toth announced their engagement in December 2010, marrying at Witherspoon's ranch in California the following March.
They are parents to their 10-year-old son, Tennessee James. Witherspoon also has two adult children with her ex-husband, fellow actor Ryan Phillippe.
