Irish trad and folk music greats The Chieftains have chosen St Patrick's Day to mark their 60th anniversary with a first-time vinyl release of their 2012 collaborations album Voice of Ages.

The acclaimed album saw The Chieftains play with an array of like-minded musicians from the worlds of indie-rock (Bon Iver, The Decemberists, The Low Anthem, Paolo Nutini), country and Americana (The Civil Wars, Pistol Annies, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers) and Irish folk (Imelda May, Lisa Hannigan).

The two LP record is available from today on 180g vinyl from CladdaghRecords.com and in shops in partnership with Craft Recordings.

The six-time Grammy Award winning band, who were led by the late Paddy Moloney, are credited with bringing Irish music to a wider audience and popularising it around the world.

Founded in Dublin in 1962 by Moloney, Sean Potts and Michael Tubridy, they were awarded the title of Ireland’s Musical Ambassadors in 1989, and worked on the soundtrack to Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, Barry Lyndon.

Successfully releasing records throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the band went on to collaborate with Luciano Pavarotti, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Sinéad O’Connor, Roger Daltrey and Van Morrison.
