Special Olympics Ireland and Universal Pictures hosted a special preview screening of Champions - check out the red carpet pictures!

The special Champions screening, which was attended by Special Olympics athletes and some well-known faces, took place at Light House Cinema on Tuesday, ahead of the movie's release in cinemas across Ireland this Friday.

Champions, starring Woody Harrelson is billed as a hilarious and heart-warming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.

"As an organisation that uses sport to change lives, we love the message behind Champions," said Matt English, CEO of Special Olympics Ireland.

"This year marks 20 years since the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games came to Ireland. Seeing athletes represented on screen as individuals who live enriching lives; who work, study and train like everyone else is proof of how much society's perception has changed over time. It’s our mission to keep spreading this message, week in, and week out in communities across Ireland," he added.
