Sinéad O'Connor’s 1990 album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got has won the inaugural RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Classic Album.

The judging panel called it "a stunning body of work by an Irish artist, scorching with originality in songs that are as resonant today as they were more than 30 years ago."

The award, announced by Tracy Clifford on 2FM on Monday, is presented in association with IMRO & IRMA and O’Connor will accept her prize at Thursday’s Live RTÉ Choice Music Prize event in Vicar Street in Dublin when the winning Irish Album of the Year 2022 will be announced.

Released in the same year as key albums such as Bossanova by Pixies, Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy and Sonic Youth’s Goo, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got included O'Connor's global breakthrough hit Nothing Compares 2 U, Black Boys On Mopeds to the drum-sampled interpretation of 17th century poem I Am Stretched On Your Grave.

The sold-out RTÉ Choice Music Prize live event will be broadcast live on RTÉ 2FM in a special four-hour extended show from 7pm to 11pm with Jenny Greene. A TV show of the night will be broadcast on Thursday 16 March at 10.30pm on RTÉ2 presented by Bláthnaid Treacy.

The Irish Song of the Year 2022 will be announced by Tracy Clifford on the afternoon of Thursday, and Tracy will also host the event that night.

The winners of the Irish Album of the Year, Irish Artist of the Year 2022 and Irish Breakthrough of the Year 2022 will all be announced at the live event from Vicar St and on RTÉ 2FM.
