Star of stage and screen - and all-round wonderful human being - Judi Dench (below) sets out to research her ancestry, beginning with her father Reginald Dench.
He never spoke of his experiences during the First World War, so she tries to find out how he won his gallantry medals.
Judi's investigations then take a truly epic turn, leading her to 16th-century Denmark and nobility. The actress also discovers, to her delight, some remarkable Shakespearean links.

The Supervet: Safai Special, 9.00pm, Channel 4
Channel 4's Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick (below) steps out of his comfort zone by heading to South Africa to spend time with the magnificent animals of the savannah.
He also meets up with some of the selfless people who dedicate their lives to looking after those creatures - often in very difficult circumstances.
Noel meets the animals threatened by poaching, injured due to neglect in captivity, and exploited in one way or another.
The pioneering vet also helps endangered rhinos and improve the lives of two big cats by performing procedures rarely - if ever - provided for wild animals before.
President Zelensky: Unspun World Special, 7.00pm, BBC Two
This fella’s on the telly more often than Ant and Dec these days. Just saying.
Ukraine President Zelensky (below) talks to John Simpson in Kyiv, in a wide-ranging interview to mark a year since Russia's invasion.
The president says he won't concede territory to Russia in any future peace deal to end the war and warns Belarus against helping a renewed Russian offensive.
He reflects on images of some of the pivotal moments of the conflict and discusses the predicted spring offensive and its impact on Ukrainian forces.
