Michael Flatley has said he is "feeling fantastic" and confident he will be able to overcome his health issues.

The star, whose Lord of the Dance show opened at Dublin's Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on Wednesday night, recently revealed that he had undergone surgery for cancer.

Speaking to RTÉ News on Wednesday afternoon, he said: "Anyone who knows me knows I'm a fighter and I'll get through this. I'm absolutely confident, but it's one day at a time."

This tour marks the 25th anniversary of Lord of the Dance. Flatley said he feels on top of the world to be bringing the show back to Ireland and for it to play in front of an Irish audience one more time.

He said 25 years ago when the show started, not a lot of people believed he would get his own show off the ground, but he is so proud of it. He described the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre as "a special place" and added that it is great to be back home.
