Actor Hugh Jackman has opened up about how going to therapy "radically" changed things for him.

The Hollywood star told the BBC's Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg programme he had never had therapy until recently but then thought "why wouldn’t you?"

He added: "I have an acting teacher, I have a singing teacher… for the things that are going on in your life why wouldn’t you get help? So I did and it radically changed things for me. I unravelled a little bit.

He said the Marvel Comics character Wolverine, who he played in the X-Men films, "absolutely" should have therapy, when asked whether the character was a good role model.

He added: "I don’t think Wolverine should be your only role model for masculinity. What drew me to him wasn’t his superhero abilities but the pain he is trying to live with and trying to reconcile.

"He isn’t a nice man but ultimately he is a good man."

Jackman also declined to rule out doing another film. He had previously said he would never make another but is now starring in The Son which was released on Friday.

When asked whether the new project was his last, the Australian said: "Just never trust an actor. I’m not going to say anything. I honestly, truly meant it.

"Ryan (Reynolds) would ring me weekly 'are you sure, are you sure?'"

Jackman and Reynolds have famously been locked in a faux feud, which is said to have originated from their time working together on 2009’s superhero film X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
