Kildare pop songwriter Ryan Mack plays his biggest Dublin headline show to date in The Academy on 24 February. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

Ryan was previously a member of the boyband Hometown, who enjoyed a successful but short career with two Number One singles and multiple tour dates under their belts, but when they finished up in 2016 Ryan decided to take a break from the limelight and spent the following couple of years writing and working on his own music.

In early 2018 Ryan released his first solo single titled Sofa, followed by Guess That's Love and his remix of Royal & The Serpent’s track Overwhelmed.

Last year, he supported American indie rock band AJR on the European leg of their OK Orchestra Tour. Earlier this month, he released his latest single, Did You Love Me Ever?

Tickets for Ryan’s Academy show are priced from €16.86 including booking fee on sale now on Ticketmaster.ie.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I love to exercise every single day (mostly running). I take a cold shower every morning. I’m a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt.

How would you describe your music?

I would describe my music as fresh alternative pop.

Who are your musical inspirations?

My biggest musical inspiration would be Jon Bellion! He’s so inspiring in the way he creates music and I admire his morals when it comes to being an independent musician in today’s industry.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

The first gig I ever went to was Busted in The Point and the support act was McFly. It was a great gig and such a good memory!

What was the first record you ever bought?

I can’t recall definitely what it was, but I distinctly remember buying Green Day’s Dookie when I was younger! Which still to this day is an incredible album!

What’s your favourite song right now?

My favourite song right now is I’m in Love With You by The 1975. it’s such a feel-good anthem!

Favourite lyric of all time?

One that comes to mind immediately is from a James Taylor song called Copperline and it’s about his first kiss! It goes: "First kiss ever I took, stole a page from a romance book, the sky opened and the earth it shook, down on Copperline."

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Jon Bellion - Ooh. I just love this song. I could listen to it all day on repeat
