Kerry Katona: "I'm a massive serial monogamist"

Kerry Katona lived up to her livewire reputation on Friday night's Late Late Love Show Valentine special when she was joined on the couch by her friend, comedian Alison Spittle.

Alison and Kerry, who host the Wheel of Misfortune podcast on the BBC Sounds app, chatted to host Ryan Tubridy about their own love lives and it seems Alison may be a bit more private than Kerry when it comes to romance.

Speaking about how they met, Alison said, "I’m just so happy to have her. I started the podcast a couple of years ago with a friend and when she left - we’re still friends - I thought who will I replace her with? Kerry is one of my heroes, so I thought I’d have her on."

In the podcast, listeners are invited to send the hosts their own sordid tale of dating disasters. "It’s like Joe Duffy’s Liveline," Alison said. "But instead of complaining about stuff, on this show people say, `you’ll never guess what I got up to last night?’ I’d listen to that - a Liveline of hangovers would be amazing, wouldn’t it?"

Kerry, who lived in Ireland when she was married to former Westlife member Brian McFadden, said she visits Dublin as often as she can.

"It’s like my second home. I think I’m more welcome here than I am in England. Obviously, my daughter Molly lives here so I take every chance to come her to get to see our Molly. I call my children one of the five a day and every week I pick my favourite."

Asked about her love life and how much "she loves a wedding", the former Atomic Kitten singer said, "I love a divorce and all! I’m a massive serial monogamist, especially if OK! magazine are paying for it. I just have to pop out a kid and I get twenty grand."

Kerry has been with her current partner Ryan, whom she met on a dating app, for five years. "We’ve been engaged for three years and it’s the longest engagement I’ve ever had. Normally at this stage I’m talking to divorce lawyers and a couple of kids have popped out but I’m very happy."

Alison was a tad demurer about her own romantic life. She’s been seeing her partner Simon for ten years. "He’s very private," she said. "He’s a man of mystery, he was my first boyfriend and my only boyfriend.

"We both really love the TV show Pointless and our first couples’ holiday we went to see a recording of Pointless, like we were going to a football match."

Speaking about the rollercoaster of her career, which saw her enjoying chart success with Atomic Kitten and becoming queen of the jungle of the third series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2004, Kerry said, "I’ve seen every side of the coin it’s possible to see - being in a girl band, marrying a boyband member, becoming a millionaire, being the face of prawn rings and all that, going bankrupt and then going bankrupt again and then becoming a millionaire again."
