Live: Guinness Six Nations, 1.30pm, Virgin Media One

This year’s eagerly-anticipated contest opens with Wales v Ireland (KO 2.15pm), which comes from the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Ireland prevailed 29-7 when the sides met at Aviva Stadium 12 months ago and they went on to finish second in the table behind France.

Meanwhile, the Welsh experienced a disappointing campaign, winning just one match and suffering a shock defeat here at the hands of Italy in their concluding contest.

Live Six Nations Rugby Union, 4.15pm, RTÉ2

All the action from the Calcutta Cup clash in the opening round of fixtures, held at London's Twickenham, as England host Scotland (KO 4.45pm).

Scotland have won the last two meetings between the sides in this competition, prevailing 20-17 at Murrayfield last year and claiming their first away win over England since 1983 when they won 11-6 here in 2020.

Jacqui Hurley (above) presents, with analysis from Jamie Heaslip, Simon Zebo and Stephen Ferris. Plus, highlights of Wales v Ireland at Principality Stadium.

As it says on the tin, here are the highlights of the recent run of Angela Scanlon’s chat show featuring surprises for and unexpected revelations from the celebrity guests, who all agree to be asked absolutely anything.

Michael McIntyre's Big Show, 6.50pm, BBC One

This week’s show sees singer Lewis Capaldi (below) bravely hands over his phone in Send to All, before taking to the stage to perform his number one single Forget Me.

Elsewhere, one lucky football fan's boyhood dream comes true as he unknowingly signs for his team, and there's a feisty performance from the Unexpected Star of the Show.

Roy Orbison Night, BBC Two

Roy Orbison at the BBC opens the night at 8.50pm, with a selection of archive performances for a celebration of the singer-songwriter, who Elvis Presley famously described as `the best singer in the world", with hits including Only the Lonely, Crying and Oh, Pretty Woman.

That’s followed at 9.20pm by Roy Orbison: In Dreams, a documentary charting the career of the singer.

It features classic performance footage, home movies and photographs, as well as interviews with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, the Bee Gees, Bernie Taupin, David Lynch, Robert Plant and Bono.

Then at 10.55pm there’s Roy Sings Orbison, where Roy performs some of his greatest hits, including Only the Lonely, Crying, Blue Bayou, Running Scared, In Dreams, It's Over and Oh, Pretty Woman.

Finally, at 11.25pm there’s Roy Orbison: One of the Lonely Ones, a biography of the singer and musician, casting new light on the triumphs and tragedies that beset his career.

It features performances and home movies, and providing an insight into Orbison's remote Texas childhood and his battles to get his voice heard.

This film reveals how his rollercoaster life was often reflected in the dark lyrics of his songs, from success to rejection, and rediscovery in the 1980s with the Travelling Wilburys supergroup.

Featuring interviews with fellow Wilbury Jeff Lynne (above), T Bone Burnett, Bobby Goldsboro and Marianne Faithfull.

Early Doors, 10.30pm, BBC Four

The superb sitcom set in a Stockport boozer continues with another double episode.

First up, Ken holds a quiz night, while his relationship with Tanya hots up, and Mel thinks about moving in with Dean.

Love is not in the air for everyone though, as a lonely Duffy sinks into misery - and uses the melancholiest tracks on the jukebox to share his pain with the rest of the pub.

Then, at 11pm, gossip is rife about Ken's on-off date with Tanya, while his relationship with Mel has turned distinctly cold since her dalliance with Dean during last week's quiz.

Meanwhile, Jumping Joe's Krazy Road Show gets a gig, and Phil and Nige describe how they found themselves in an awkward position during a police raid.
