Salma Hayek Pinault: 'Appreciating life is so important today'

Salma Hayek Pinault has said she hopes she "can find enough magnetism" to keep all of her children together as they get older and admits "appreciating life is so important today".

The 56-year-old actress, who voices the street-savvy Tuxedo cat, Kitty Softpaws in Dreamworks' Oscar-nominated animation Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, admits the latest outing is "a lot more ambitious" than the Shrek franchise.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment, she said: "One of the things I love about the movie is that there are so many things you can take from it. It's not dictating and manipulating the audience towards only one thing.

"For example, my character deals with betrayal, understanding how to forgive, and the importance of making people earn the forgiveness.

"I think starting to be who you are with someone, and showing them your vulnerabilities, is so important in life."

The mum-of-four said she really hopes she can keep her kids all together as they grow up and insists "that's what I wish for".

"When Shrek came out it had one message but this one is a lot more ambitious because it's a feel-good movie that makes you feel hopeful while igniting your spirit of life. Appreciating life is so important today," she said.

Hayek Pinault added: "You know, when you are a mother, it's so weird - you just want your kids to be happy.

"We are happy but you never know what's going to happen next year. I just want us to all stay in good health and be together because when they get older they start walking away.

"I hope I can find enough magnetism to keep on bringing them back and the power to keep them all together - that's what I wish for."

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish hits cinemas on February 3.
