Dancing with the Stars favourite Panti Bliss has said she loves getting messages from parents to say their kids are rooting for her on the show and says her WhatsApp group is buzzing every week.

The drag icon, who is set to perform to The Witches are Back from Hocus Pocus 2 for the upcoming Movie Week special, said she really appreciates when fans of the show leave her positive comments on social media.

"I have had a few people message me on social media who have been watching the show with their kids saying that it's nice that their kids are being introduced to queer people through a family entertainment show.

"That's been nice because that's what I was thinking about being the first same-sex couple on it.

"I think it is great that there are kids out there who may be learning about people like me through the telly with their mam there to answer questions on a Sunday night, rather than learning about it in the schoolyard or through an awful joke," Panti said.

When asked what her family and friends, and of course the locals from her hometown of Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, make of the show, Panti insists they are all huge fans.

"They love it! My family are totally into it. All of my sisters are coming to the show - one sister has been already, another sister is coming this Sunday, then another the following week. My mum has been. The town of Ballinrobe seems to be into it.

"My whole college WhatsApp group is hoppin' every Sunday. People in the US and other places are downloading VPNs so they can watch it. I've been surprised," she said.

Dancing with the Stars, RTÉ One and RTÉ Player, Sunday, 6:30pm.
