Telefís, the duo of producer Jacknife Lee and the late Microdisney and Fatima Mansion front man Cathal Coughlan, have released Special Report, a 22-track compilation of remixes and alternate versions.
Telefís, who won acclaimed in many end-of-year album polls, including on RTÉ Entertainment, ended 2022 with two highly acclaimed albums released seven months apart - a hAon and a Dó.
Each of the album's subsequent public acclaim became a testament to the life and work of Cathal Coughlan, who passed away last May after a short illness.
Special Report includes the Falun Gong Dancer EP featuring Jah Wobble of PiL, which has become Dimple Disc’s biggest streaming success of the campaign with over 250,000 plays on Spotify.
Also included are four previously unreleased tracks, including remixes from British duo Maurice & Charles and Irish producer Jape and special guests like Will Sergeant (Echo & The Bunnymen), A Certain Ratio, and Sean O’Hagan (Microdisney, High Llamas).
Speaking about the new release, U2 and R.E.M. producer Jacknife said, "We did a lot of work in such a short space of time, Cathal and I. It was an incredible and intense 18 months, running then tumbling down a hill, chasing an idea that thrilled us.
"We were having a blast and we didn’t want to stop, which is why we did these EPs, to live alongside the albums. Some concentrated on the beats, others on the words. I had my Da, my Auntie Joan, and my friend Dan Hegarty’s Mom, read a few pieces.
"Cathal thought this was a little mad at first but then loved it. We subsequently got to collaborate with some people that inspired us to think we could have a go at making music in the first place, and also some new artists that inspired us when we became Telefís
"Jah Wobble, Will Sergeant, A Certain Ratio, Thomas Leer, Gareth Jones, Andrew Meecham, Basement Jaxx, Jape, Sean O’Hagan, Maurice and Charles, and my mentor and boss from the Pussyfoot days, Howie B!
"Some of these tracks got lost in the rush so I’m grateful to Dimple Discs for agreeing to give them the attention we felt they deserved and thank you to the artists that came along with us. We were shocked you said yes!"
